Friday live music at 2 PM
Friday live Cuban music — bolero, son, and danzón for our grandparents
Fridays afternoons our center fills with live music. At 2:00 PM, local Cuban-American musicians — three or four neighborhood veterans with guitar, tres, and bongó — walk into the main hall and start playing bolero, son cubano, danzón, and guaracha. The grandmothers sing, the grandfathers tap their feet, and many families come to pick up their loved one a little late so they can enjoy the last song together.
How Friday music nights work
- 01
1. Fridays, 2:00 PM sharp
Every Friday (except national holidays), the trio or quartet starts at 2:00 PM in the main hall. The session runs 60 to 90 minutes.
- 02
2. Classic Cuban-American repertoire
Bolero (Olga Guillot, Lucho Gatica, La Lupe), son cubano (Trío Matamoros, Compay Segundo), danzón, guaracha, and sometimes 70s salsa (Celia Cruz, Willie Colón). Musicians take requests.
- 03
3. Coffee, cookies, and gentle dancing
We serve cafecito and cookies during the show. Whoever wants to dance, dances (with staff support); whoever wants to just listen and sing along quietly, that's fine too.
- 04
4. Family welcome
WhatsApp us if you want to drop by before 5 PM to hear the last song with Mom or Dad. Many adult children come on purpose on Fridays.
